SPARTANS GET SPRING WIN OVER TRU WOLFPACK

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans used two second-half goals to earn a 2-0 victory over the visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack Saturday afternoon at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C. The win lifts the Spartans to 1-4-2 in spring play.

TWU's Mansha Sidhu (Surrey, B.C.) and first-year midfielder Lucy Haigh (Victoria, B.C.) scored the goals for the Spartans.

Second-year keeper Yasmine Pahal (Surrey, B.C.) was solid in the back, playing the full 90 for the Spartans to earn the shutout win. While TRU's Makayla Kusch took the loss and kept her team in the match making three spectacular saves off the Spartans' attackers in her 90 minutes.

QUOTABLE
Trinity Western head coach Graham Roxburgh
"What pleased me as we generated some really good chances and we started finding some combinations and passed through, you know certain aspects of the field where we haven't had that success so far this spring. It was a typical spring game, with both teams trying to play as many as possible and get experience for younger kids. I thought our younger kids did really well today. Caitlin Cooper's (first-year forward, Abbotsford, B.C.) energy was superb and brought a lot of fight and hustle at midfield. Mansha's goal was very, very special. And then some kids coming back from injury played well, like Mya Majpai (third-year defender, Mission, B.C.) who played her first real minutes in a long time. A positive step forward, but I still think we can be better with the ball and maybe play with just a little bit more poise."?

AS IT HAPPENED
TWU second-year forward Mansha Sidhu (Surrey, B.C.) opened the scoring in the 47th minute after a scoreless opening half. Sidhu weaved through the left side of the TRU defense to go in alone and beat TRU's Makayla Kusch to put TWU up 1-0.

Spartans fourth-year midfielder Erin Stewart (Winnipeg, Man.) nearly made it 2-0 when she hit the left goal post in the 55th minute from a strike at the top of the box.

TRU's Lydia Keating nearly evened the score when she put one over the Spartans' bar in the 61st minute.

Second-year forward Destiny Omari (Paris, Ont.) put the Spartans up 2-0 in the 64th minute. Omari's initial shot was stopped by the WolfPack's Kusch, but the ball spilled, and Omari sent the ball to an open first-year midfielder Lucy Haigh (Victoria, B.C.) who put the ball into the open net.
