SPARTANS FINISH PRESEASON CALIFORNIA TOUR WITH LOSS TO UC IRVINE

IRVINE, Calif. – The Trinity Western Spartans finished their preseason of California and NCAA Division I programs with a 2-0 loss to UC Irvine Monday evening at Anteater Stadium in Irvine, California. The tour sees the Spartans go winless at 0-3 against Division I teams. This was the first time that TWU had faced UC Irvine.

TWU's Yasmine Pahal made one save in the loss, while UCI's Lauryn Ziller and Savanna Arruda, who made one save, split the goalkeeping duties for the Anteater win.

UC Irvine's goals came from Milan Heisdorf (8') and Mia Colombini (59').

QUOTABLE
Graham Roxburgh, TWU Head Coach
"I really enjoyed tonight. I thought it was a quality game for the first 45 minutes, very competitive with both teams testing each other and closing space quickly. I thought our possession was really good at times, and we were able to generate some good chances. Disappointed in the manner in which we gave away the goal. I thought it could've been avoided. Having said that, playing three games in five days is a tall order, so it is great to get a lot of young kids' quality minutes in the second half and not jeopardize any of our regular starters' little nagging injuries.  Overall, I am quite pleased with the work rate and with the development of certain players who are starting to show they can play at this level."

NOTABLE
  • The Spartans saw 23 players see action in the match, while the Anteaters used 21 players.
  • TWU finished with two shots, one on target, while UC Irvine finished with five shots, with three on target.
  • The Spartans were called for five offsides, while the Anteaters had two.
  • UC Irvine committed seven fouls while Trinity Western had five fouls.
