LANGLEY, British Columbia – This Week in Sparta sees seven teams in action with men's and women's soccer continuing conference play with single games, while men's rugby continues Coastal Cup play with a home game. In preseason action are men's volleyball, men's and women's hockey. While men's basketball begins its preseason play with a tour of China.

NOTABLE
  • The No.10 Spartans are currently in third place in the Pacific Division at 3-2-0, while the Cascades are in fifth place at 2-4-1.
  • Last week, the Spartans defeated the Victoria Vikes 3-2 at Chase Office Field on Friday evening. Last Sunday, the Cascades tied the Vikes 0-0 in Victoria at Centennial Stadium.
  • TWU is currently 36-5-7 lifetime against Fraser Valley.
  • The last time the Spartans lost to the Cascades was 15 years ago. TWU lost  3-2 in a shootout in the Canada West semi-final in Edmonton, Alta. on November 6, 2010.
MEN'S SOCCER

  • After three weeks at home and six conference match-ups, the Spartans head on the road to take on the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon, Sask.
  • TWU is currently in fifth place in the Pacific Division at 3-3-2, while the Huskies are in fifth place in the Prairie Division at 1-4-1.
  • Last weekend, the Spartans defeated the MacEwan Griffins 3-2 and tied the Mount Royal Cougars 0-0 at Chase Office Field.
  • Last weekend, the Huskies lost 3-1 to the UBC Thunderbirds and defeated the UNBC Timberwolves 3-1 in two road games.
  • The Spartans are currently 20-7-4 lifetime against the Huskies.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY

MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • Saturday's game is part of the Spartans' preseason tour of China.
  • TWU will also play the Tianjin Pioneers, Tianjin University, and Guangzhou Sport University.
  • The Spartans begin Canada West conference play on Friday, October 24 at the Victoria Vikes.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes as in the NAIA in track and field and cross country and as an independent team in men's rugby and women's and men's disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 14 U SPORTS team championships and 33 Canada West team championships.
