EDMONTON – Trinity Western opened the Canada West 7s Series with one win from three outings, beating Calgary in convincing fashion before falling to three-time defending champion UBC and last year's second-place finishing Victoria Vikes Saturday at Foote Field Dome.
The Spartans opened their 2026 campaign with 33-12 win over Calgary that saw rookie
Kamryn Howlett score three tries and kick three conversions in her TWU debut. The Spartans put the T-Birds to the test in their second match of the day, keeping the game within three points, at 20-17, late in the contest before ultimately losing 27-17. The 10-point setback against UBC marks the closest final score between the two teams since TWU joined the circuit in 2020. TWU lost to Victoria 29-0 in the Spartans final match of Day 1.
Howlett and
Kelsa Kempf had three tries each, while
Hailey Hibbs and rookie
Kala Campbell dotted down once each. Howlett finished with four conversions while
Jenna De Greeff making one conversion.
