SPARTANS BEAT LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA TO FINISH 3RD

EDMONTON – Trinity Western beat both Lethbridge and Alberta to finish third overall on the opening leg of the Canada West 7s Series after posting a 3-2 overall record at the Foote Field Dome. 

The Spartans opened the day by beating Lethbridge 26-14 before wrapping up the tournament with their most decisive victory of the weekend, beating Alberta 38-5. 

Kelsa Kempf and Ava Van Santen had three tries apiece on the day to lead the Spartans. Matisan Kelly, Sierra Hamilton, Kamry Howlett and Jenna De Greeff dotted down once each in Sunday's action, with Howlett kicking four conversions and De Greeff knocking through three conversions. 

Kempf finished the tournament with a team-high six tries, while the first-year Howlett led TWU on the weekend with 36 points, including four tries and eight conversions. 

The tournament results mirrored last year's overall standings, with UBC finishing first, Victoria second and TWU third.
