SPARTANS FINISH TIED FOR THIRD IN VICTORIA’ RUGBY 7’S TOURNAMENT

VICTORIA, British Columbia– The Trinity Western Spartans finished off Day two of the Canada West Rugby 7's tournament with one win and one tie Sunday afternoon in Victoria, B.C. The Spartans had an unexpected 19-19 tie with the Alberta Pandas after leading the Pandas 19-0 at the half. In their final match of the tournament the Spartans defeated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 26-15.
 
After today's results the Spartans finish the tournament with a record of two wins, two losses and one tie. The Spartans finish the tournament tied for third with the Alberta Pandas. The UBC Thunderbirds won the tournament going 5-0, Victoria Vikes were second at 4-1, the Lethbridge Pronghorns fifth at 1-4, and the Calgary Dinos last at 0-5.
 
On Day One the Spartans defeated the Dinos 17-7 in the opening match of the day. TWU would then drop both of their afternoon matches, falling 31-12 to the UBC Thunderbirds and 29-7 to the Victoria Vikes.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will now have a couple of weeks off before they finish of the Canada West season with the final tournament of the season March 6-7 at UBC in Vancouver. All matches can be seen live on Canada West TV.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes as in the NAIA in track and field and cross country and as an independent team in men's rugby and women's and men's disc golf.
