NO. 3 SPARTANS STRONG IN ROAD SWEEP OF NO. 2 BOBCATS

BRANDON, Manitoba – Using a strong serve and block the No. 3 Trinity Western University Spartans went into the No. 2 Brandon University gym and swept the Bobcats in Canada West women's volleyball action Friday night in Brandon, Manitoba. The 25-21, 25-10, 25-15 victory breaks the CW second place tie and improves the Spartans 15-4, while the loss drops the Bobcats to 14-5.

"I'm very pleased with how our team performed and prepared for tonight. We truly were a team out there and everyone played their roll and executed  the game plan," commented TWU head coach Ryan Hofer. "We took care of our side of the court and kept Brandon out of system as much as we could."

"But tomorrow we know it is going to be a lot tougher and we have to be ready and prepare for that," added Hofer.

The Spartans used an impressive 10 service aces to three errors along with nine blocks to earn the victory, while holding the Bobcats to zero aces with nine errors and five blocks.

"Trinity was way better than us tonight. We have to get better if we are going to go to where we want to go. We can't afford to have down days and we have to come ready to compete against a play-off team like Trinity," commented Brandon head coach Lee Carter in his post-game interview.

Fourth Year middle Alicia Perrin (Creston, B.C.) with 10 kills (71.4 percent), three aces and five blocks was dominating for the Spartans Friday night. 

"We had outstanding performances from Alicia, Sophie and Royal tonight," said Hofer.

Also strong for TWU were second year outside Sophie Carpentier (Ottawa) with 15 kills, four aces and three blocks and Royal Richardson(Rocky Mountain, Alta.) with 12 kills, seven digs, two aces and two blocks.

Rookie setter Vanessa (Nikki) Cornwall (Coquitlam, B.C.) ran the Spartans attack and finished with 25 set assists.

Fourth year leftside Victoria Dakiin (Calgary) with nine kills and five digs and rookie leftside Vaovai Aiono (Auckland, NZ) and fifth year middle Alexis Loewen (Winkler, Man.) with six kills each led the Bobcats attack. Brandon fifth year setter Kellie Baker (Brandon, Man.) finished the match with 25 kills.

The two teams will play again tomorrow night in Brandon. Match time is set for 5 p.m. CST. 

Match Notes: After starting the season 2-3 the Spartans are now on a 10 match winning streak and have not dropped a set in their last seven matches…with the win the Spartans secure a home play-off spot to start Canada West post season play… As a group the Spartans finished hitting 31.6 percent (37-12-79) with 34 digs…Brandon finished the night hitting at 12 percent (30-19-92) with 25 digs…
