SPARTANS DRAW WOLFPACK

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University Spartans and the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack battled to a competitive 0-0 draw Friday night in Kamloops, B.C. The tie moves TWU to 1-1-1, while TRU gets their first points in Canada West at 0-0-1.

The two teams had their share of opportunities as the combined for 29 total shots (15-14 for TRU). The Spartans third year keeper Evan Lowther (Surrey, B.C.) finished the match with six saves, while his counterpart with the WolfPack, Travis Froehlich made an equal six saves.

"I thought it was a thoroughly entertaining game. I thought TRU was excellent. I thought the refereeing was spectacular. I thought the way we played in the second half showed our class, but we just weren't finishing. We're doing everything right except putting the ball in the back of the net.  With our movement to goal and the opportunities we're creating, it's just a matter of time before we start banging them in," commented TWU head coach Pat Rohla. "I'm not disappointed. I thought it might have been our best play in a long time. The opportunities are there. We're playing well. Our system is working. Everything is going well, but we're just not getting the ball in the back of the net yet. If we keep working at it, good things will come."

The Spartans were led by fifth year midfielder Cameron Parkes (North Delta, B.C.), who finished with four shots and fourth year midfielder Brayden Gant (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and rookie forward Vito Poletto (Calgary) who each had three total shots.

"Vito Poletto was spectacular today. Mitchell Rohla (Langley, B.C.) was lights out and Brayden Gant was, as per usual, very Gant like," added Rohla.

The Spartans will now head to Kelowna, B.C. to take on the UBC-O Heat tomorrow afternoon at 7 p.m. PST.

Match Notes: the WolfPack played last season in the Pacific Division of the BCCAA …TRU had the edge in corner kicks at 7-4… UBC Okanagan defeated the Fraser Valley Cascades 2-1 Friday night in Kelowna, B.C….
