THE WEEKEND STORY

• TWU and MRU both will look to gain some ground in the Canada West standings after starting 0-4 and 1-3 respectively.
• The Cougars split their series with Manitoba last weekend, marking their first conference win of the year.
• Vartan Tanielian (Byblos, Lebanon) leads the Spartans in scoring with 20 points per game; good for eighth in the Canada West.
• MRU is led in scoring by Glen Yang, who is ninth in the Canada West in scoring with 18.8 points per game.
• The Spartans Borja Soriano (Valencia, Spain) will try to continue his dominance on the boards after averaging 9.8 rebounds per game through the first four games. He currently ranks fourth in the Canada West in rebounding.
• Both squads will try to get their offenses going as they rank in the bottom half of the Canada West in team scoring. TWU is averaging 73.8 points per game (14th) and MRU is averaging 78.0 points per game (12th).
• Trinity Western will continue to look to their long ball for scoring opportunities as they rank third in the Canada West in 3-point percentage (36.3%). MRU checks in at ninth (31.7%).
• The last time these two teams met was in 2016-17 when they split their season series in Calgary. MRU won 96-66 before TWU responded with a 71-54 win.
• The last time MRU played the Spartans in Langley was in 2012-13 (Jan. 25-26), with TWU winning both games (84-78 and 86-69).
