LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western's men's basketball team returns home this week, taking on Fraser Valley Thursday at the Langley Events Centre before a road rematch Saturday at the Envision Financial Athletic Centre.

THE WEEKEND STORY
  • The Spartans are looking to rebound off a pair of losses to UBC last week, while the Cascades are looking to extend their win-streak after a pair of convincing wins over UNBC on the road (Jan. 10-11).   
  • TWU guard Ja'Qualyn Gilbreath (Amarillo, Tex.) currently leads both Canada West and U SPORTS in points per-game (26.3) and is coming off earning TWU's first ever triple double last Thursday (33-10-10). Gilbreath narrowly missed another triple double in Saturday's rematch (34-10-8). 
  • The Spartans are averaging 87.5 points per-game (5th) compared to Fraser Valley's 82.3 (12th), while also surrendering a league-high 101.4 points per-game (17th) as opposed to the Cascades 77.0 (6th).
  • TWU is 13-15 all-time against Fraser Valley, falling in both of its games last season (Feb. 1-2, 2019).

About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) in men's hockey and as an independent team in men's rugby. The men's and women's hockey programs will begin playing in Canada West and U SPORTS in 2020-21. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 12 U SPORTS team championships and 27 Canada West team championships and two BCIHL championships.
