LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western's men's basketball team returns home to host the No. 4 ranked Alberta Golden Bears Friday and Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

THE WEEKEND STORY
  • Alberta comes to town having won eight games in a row, recently sweeping last weekend's games against MacEwan.
  • The Spartans meanwhile are still searching for their first win of the new year, having lost both its games in a home-and-home against Fraser Valley last weekend.
  • Ja'Qualyn Gilbreath (Amarillo, Tex.) will be a player to watch for the Spartans, as he currently leads both Canada West and U SPORTS in scoring (27.0 PPG). If he maintains his current pace, Gilbreath would finish in the top-10 in conference all-time single season points-per game. 
  • The Golden Bears have a very balanced attack, with six players currently averaging double-digit points, with forward Adam Paige leading the way (12.7 PPG). 
  • TWU currently ranks fifth in points-per game (88.0), while Alberta ranks one spot ahead in fourth (89.3). 
  • The Spartans have lost seven consecutive games against Alberta, with its last win coming at home Jan. 11, 2013 (90-85).

About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) in men's hockey and as an independent team in men's rugby. The men's and women's hockey programs will begin playing in Canada West and U SPORTS in 2020-21. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 12 U SPORTS team championships and 27 Canada West team championships and two BCIHL championships.
