THE WEEKEND STORY
  • TWU is coming off a pair of straight set victories on the road over Regina last weekend, improving its conference-best record to 13-1.
  • The Cougars are coming off a bye week, splitting a pair of games in their last matchup against Alberta (Nov. 22-23).
  • Hilary Howe (Calgary) leads the Spartans attack, ranking second in conference kills (197) and kills per-set (4.19) this season.
  • Nyadholi Thokbuom is a player to watch for Mount Royal, currently ranking fourth in conference hitting percentage (.330), while TWU's Avery Heppell (Langley) is first (.383). 
  • Since 2013, the Spartans are a perfect 18-0 against Mount Royal, losing just six sets over that span. The series also marks the first meeting between the two teams since TWU's conference quarter-final win (Feb. 21-22, 2019) at home.
About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) in men's hockey and as an independent team in men's rugby. The men's and women's hockey programs will begin playing in Canada West and U SPORTS in 2020-21. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 12 U SPORTS team championships and 27 Canada West team championships and two BCIHL championships.
