DELTA, B.C. – In what was their first exhibition game as a varsity program, the Trinity Western Spartans fell 6-5 to Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna (RHA) Saturday at Planet Ice Delta.
AS IT HAPPENED
After trailing 1-0 early, the Spartans scored three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead at the first intermission. TWU would then add another two goals early in the second frame to lead 5-1. Kelowna would however fight back, scoring two goals late in the second and another three in the third to win the game 6-5.
Ashlee Wolfe (Holbein, Sask.) and
Brooklyn Anderson (Shellbrook, Sask.) each had a goal and two assists for TWU, while
Chantel Weller (Saskatoon, Sask.) stopped 26 of 29 Kelowna shots.
NEED TO KNOW
- It was a historic game for the Spartans, as it was the first exhibition game played since becoming a varsity program.
- TWU was initially supposed to play this season as a member of the Canada West conference, before the 2020-21 season was canceled following recommendations by the CW Board of Directors based on information provided by the CW COVID-19 task force.
- The Spartans are playing exhibition games against a variety of teams as part of the CSSHL (Canadian Sport School Hockey League) Return to Play.
