SPARTANS OPEN FVSL SEASON WITH WIN OVER LANGLEY FC

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western's men's soccer team returned to the pitch Tuesday night, launching their Fraser Valley Soccer League campaign with a 2-1 win over Langley FC at Noel Booth Community Park.

AS IT HAPPENED
Fifth-year Caleb Johnson (Strathmore, Alta.) opened the scoring and first-year Charles Nana (Calgary) tallied in the second half to lead TWU to a win in it's first-ever FVSL regular season contest.

NEED TO KNOW
  • With the Canada West soccer season cancelled due to COVID-19, the Spartans have joined the FVSL for the 2020-21 season.
  • The match marked the first contest TWU's men's soccer team has played since a 1-0 season-ending loss to Calgary (Oct. 26) in the Canada West Quarter-Finals.
QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Mike Shearon
"Overall, I was happy with the work rate of the team. There are still things we need to fix and get better at but that's to be expected when this was the first game we've played against somebody else since last spring. We'll continue to get better and we're thankful to have an opportunity to play in this league."
