LANGLEY, B.C. – Playing in its first on-campus game in more than a calendar year, the Trinity Western men's soccer team picked up an 8-0 win over Surrey United in Fraser Valley Soccer League action Friday at Chase Office Field.  

AS IT HAPPENED 
Trinity Western's Noah Kroeker (Calgary) opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the contest, sparking what would end up being a two-goal first half and a six-goal second half for the Spartans. Jacob Low (Port Moody, B.C.) buried his first of two goals on the night in the 37th minute to send the home side into the break with a 2-0 lead. Early in the second half, Marcus Tjernagel (Maple Ridge, B.C.) potted TWU's third goal with his first of two on the night. 

In the 71st minute, Jackson Thomson (Langley, B.C.) scored the goal of the night with screamer from well out that went in off the crossbar. Xander Roxburgh (Langley) made 5-0 before Low scored again, followed by goals from Nicholas Coulter (Langley) and Tjernagel.

NEED TO KNOW
•    The Spartans are now 3-0 in the FVSL after opening the season with a 2-1 win over Langley FC, followed by a 3-2 victory over Langley United.
•    Next up, TWU will take on the University of the Fraser Valley Nov. 17 in Abbotsford, B.C. (Mouat Turf 4) at 8:15 p.m. 
•    With the Canada West soccer season cancelled due to COVID-19, the Spartans have joined the FVSL for the 2020-21 season.

"It was a good exercise in having to learn to play differently at times and having to figure out new problems. It took us a little bit of time to figure out how to solve that and we've been trying to let the boys figure it out on their own. I thought Surrey played well for a number of minutes, but partly our press and partly them giving the ball away in a few bad areas helped us in the first half and early on the second half. It also helps that we're young and fast. 

"J-Low had a good game, like usual and he found the spaces. It was good to get Noah a longer run up front and thought he did well. Marcus was all over the field today. Marcus and Mikey Dale (Coquitlam, B.C.) both played excellent. (Caleb Johnson, Strathmore, Alta.) and the rest of the back line were solid and Tristan (Torresan, North Vancouver, B.C.) dictated."
