Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

SPARTANS FALL TO NO. 2 SASKATCHEWAN

SASKATOON – The No. 2-ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's hockey team earned a 6-0 win over the visiting Trinity Western Spartans Friday at Merlis Belsher Place.

In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, it was Saskatchewan holding control from start-to-finish, as they outshot Trinity Western 44-14 and ran away with the contest following a three-goal second period.

The Huskies got goals from six different skaters including Brayden Camrud, who tallied his first-career U SPORTS goal. Justin Ball, Vince Loschiavo, Zane Franklin, Chantz Petruic and Jaxan Kaluski also all found the back of the net in the win.

Hometown kid Isaac Labelle (Saskatoon) earned the start between the pipes for the Spartans and he was peppered. He stood his ground, but in the end the Huskies offense was too much as they eventually got six past the Saskatoon product, who made 38 saves in the losing effort.

Trinity Western fell to 0-5-0 with the loss, while Saskatchewan moved to 5-0-0.

Saskatchewan's powerplay has been sluggish to begin the season, with just one goal through four games entering the night, but they came alive tonight. The Huskies went 2-4 on the man-advantage.

Roddy Ross made the stops he needed to make, en route to his first-career shutout in the green-and-white. Ross finished the evening with 14 stops.

AS IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first period that saw Saskatchewan outshoot Trinity Western 14-3, the Dogs pounced early in the middle frame. Zane Franklin struck just 18 seconds into the second, weaving through the Spartans zone and elevating his backhand over the left shoulder of Labelle to give the home side the lead.

The Dogs kept it coming, as they struck twice more in the frame, before adding three more in the win.
