SPARTANS LOSE TO VICTORIA

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western fell to Victoria at the Langley Events Centre on Saturday, losing 106-69.

The Spartans (0-4) and the Vikes (5-1) played their third consecutive match against each other,

Fourth-year Tre Fillmore (Amarillo, Texas) led the way for the Spartans on Saturday, scoring 18 points on a great first half of shooting. Fillmore was accompanied by Mason Bourcier (Kelowna, B.C.) and Ja'Qualyn Gilbreath (Amarillo, Texas) who combined for 30 points.

UVIC's end of the court saw varied contribution from their rotation of immense depth. Scott Kellum picked up where he left off on Friday, scoring 22 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Kellum combined was one of four Vikes who scored ten or more points on the night.

AS IT HAPPENED
The first quarter of action saw the Vikes move to a 28-14 lead led by first-year Elias Ralph's stellar shooting touch. Ralph spread the floor for the Vikes, allowing Scott Kellum and Ethan Boag to get open looks at the basket.

The Vikes kept rolling throughout the remainder of the first half, pitting the Spartans at a 19-point deficit. Tre Fillmore was stellar in the first half of the game, scoring a game-high 16 points in the first half with the bulk of his work coming from 3-point range.

The third consecutive game between the Spartans and Vikes quickly fell out of the team's hands, putting TWU far out of reach once the game came to a close.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Trevor Pridie
"I don't want to make excuses, we didn't play well tonight. I think Victoria is a really good team and a tough matchup for us. We showed up yesterday and had a great game, finding ourselves in a tie game with six minutes left, but today we were inconsistent. The team that showed up today wasn't good enough.

"They exploited some of our weaknesses, so hopefully we can learn from this and get better in practice. We limped through the first four games, which is the toughest part of our schedule. We need to get better and practice hard this week."

UP NEXT
The Spartans will be heading to Kamloops to take on the TRU Wolfpack on Nov. 26th and 27th.
