PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Trinity Western drew 1-1 to UNBC on Friday. This draw stands as the third in a row for the Spartans as they have done so for all three games so far this season.
The game was a back-and-forth affair filled with physicality and exciting chances, leaving both teams hungry for a win in Saturday's second part in this two-game series.
Although few chances came to fruition, a 35
th minute goal by the Spartans was disallowed by the match official, keeping the game at a standstill until
Luca Alberti (Burnaby, B.C.) scored in the 87
th minute.
The goal, which almost solidified Trinity Western's first win of the season, still wasn't enough as the Spartans conceded a penalty kick which was then scored in additional time.
NOTABLE
- Luca Alberti's goal was the first goal in his career as a Spartan. The hard-working forward has carved himself out a solid role in his first year, earning appearances in all three games with the team.
- Christian Rossi (Surrey, B.C.) headlined the group of first-years who have been providing important minutes for the 2021 edition of the Spartans. Rossi created numerous chances, whipping in crosses from the wing while putting immense pressure down the right flank.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Mike Shearon
Â
"Tonight was disappointing based on the scoreline. I thought we solved some good problems tonight, but UNBC created some new ones for us tonight. The first goal being called back hurts, but we need to bounce back.
We need to continue worrying about ourselves as we got at it again tomorrow. We'll see what we come up with."
