SPARTANS WIN 4-2 OVER VIU IN CAPTAINS CUP

NANAIMO, B.C. – Trinity Western are undefeated after week one of the Captains Cup, winning 4-2 over Victoria Island on Saturday.

After the Spartans went into the first intermission down 1-0, a goal by Josh Borynec (Parkland County, Alta.) in the 2nd period built enough momentum to be one of four Trinity Western goals in the period.

Victoria Island potted one more to bring the game to 4-2 in what was otherwise a quiet period.

The fourth annual Captains Cup, presented by the Vancouver Giants, is a staple preseason event for the Spartans. Trinity Western competes against fellow U SPORTS competition UBC, and their former BCIHL counterparts in Simon Fraser, Victoria, and VIU.

TWU Head Coach Barret Kropf

"It was a good game. We have a couple things to work on when it comes to taking opportunities and playing to our advantages. We have some work to do before we go up against UBC next weekend."

UP NEXT
The Spartans play at UBC on Sept. 25th. This will be Trinity Western's first U SPORTS opponent of the 2021-22 season.
