LANGLEY, B.C. – Mason Bourcier (Kelowna, B.C.) is this week's Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after posting back-to-back triple-doubles against UFV this past weekend.
Bourcier was simply unstoppable, doing what seemed impossible on back-to-back nights by posting two consecutive triple-doubles in as many nights. These performances put Bourcier in multiple history books, standing as the first Spartan to officially record a triple-double on Friday (97-87 W) and the second player in Canada West history to have more than one triple-double in their career on Saturday (102-88 L).
Friday's victory was largely credited to Bourcier's performance. With the bulk of his work being done in the ball-moving aspects of the game, the floor immediately opened up for his teammates who were able to hit open shots throughout the entire night. Friday's triple-double stood as the 18
th time the feat was achieved in Canada West history.
After Friday's massive victory for the Spartans, Bourcier came to play once again, posting the 19
th triple-double in Canada West history with a line of 16 points, 12 assists, and 12 rebounds. The fourth-year guard also got it done on the defensive end, making four steals en route to another stellar performance on both sides of the court.
Bourcier's weekend will go down as one of the greatest in TWU men's basketball history. As head coach
Trevor Pridie aims to keep the Spartans heading in the right direction, incredible weekends like Bourcier's will surely signal the turning of tides for the Spartans.
