SPARTANS DEFEAT UFV 1-0

LANGLEY, B.C. – No. 4 ranked Trinity Western defeated UFV 1-0 at Chase Office Field on Friday.

The Spartans (8-1-2) were given an early lift from Grace Van den Brink (Chilliwack, B.C.) as the Cascades (0-6-5) were unable to beat TWU keeper Hannah Miller (Langley, B.C.) and a stingy Spartans back-line.
Miller was not forced to make a stop the entire night while UFV keeper Joven Sandhu stopped 10 of the 11 shots she faced.

AS IT HAPPENED
TWU opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Van den Brink put a corner kick from Sophie Crowther (New Westminster, B.C.) in the back of the net. The Spartans ended up with a 10-0 advantage in shots through the first half, but TWU only ended up with one goal scored.
The second half bore no goals as TWU held on for a 1-0 victory.

QUOTABLE
Graham Roxburgh – TWU Head Coach
"Really pleased that we scored early. They defended deep on us, so they were always looking to catch us on the counter attack. Jessa [Vance] (Coquitlam, B.C.) was great at the back and Danielle Cooper (Surrey, B.C.) had a fantastic 80 minutes. Tilly [James] (Vancouver) also dropped back to solidify it.

"We have to find ways to score the second goal and kill the game. Credit to UFV for thwarting our main efforts. It wasn't for a lack of shots or chances, sometimes the ball just doesn't go in."

NOTABLE
• The Spartans have never lost to the Cascades at home (22-0-2) with their last time dropping points at Chase Office Field being on Oct. 10, 2010. The Spartans have won their last 26 matches against the Cascades.
• TWU's lone goal was Van den Brink's first of the 2022 season.

UP NEXT
