SPARTANS GET WEEKEND SPLIT WITH OT WIN

EDMONTON Jaidia Pisani (Sturgeon County, Alta.) scored 34 seconds into overtime to give the Trinity Western Spartans 2-1 victory over the MacEwan Griffins Saturday afternoon in Edmonton, Alta. The victory gives the Spartans a weekend split and improves their record to 5-5-0, while the loss drops the Griffins to 3-6-1 in Canada West conference play.
 
TWU's Amy Potomak (Aldergrove, B.C.) opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 2:51 of the opening period. While MacEwan's Shyla Kirwer got the lone goal for the Griffins at 10:56 of the third period.
 
TWU's Mabel Maltais (Edmonton) made 29 saves to record the win for the Spartans, while Brianna Sank made 15 saves in the Griffins loss.

• The Spartans were 0-5 on the power play, while the Griffins finished 0-8.
• MacEwan outshot the Spartans 19-3 in the third period with TWU's Maltais turning away all but one shot.
• The Spartans had nine penalties for 18 minutes, while the Griffins had five penalties for 10 minutes.
• TWU is currently tied for fourth spot in Canada West with 10 points. The Spartans finished last season with a record of 2-18.

The Spartans will now head home for a home-and-home series with the UBC Thunderbirds. TWU will host UBC at the George Preston Recreation Centre on Thursday, November 10.. Game time is set for 715 p.m. and can be seen live on CanadaWest.TV.
