SPARTANS TIE MONTANA IN FRIENDLY

MISSOULA, Montana – Trinity Western continued their US preseason road trip with a 1-1 draw against the Montana Grizzlies Monday afternoon in Missoula, Montana.
With the draw the Spartans preseason record moves to 1-2-1.

The Spartans lone goal came in the final minute of play from TWU's Kelsey Stewart (Port Coquitlam, B.C.).

AS IT HAPPENED
The Grizzlies opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, when Montana's Skyleigh Thompson took a through ball from Maysa Walters to go in one v one on TWU keeper Hanna Miller (Langley, B.C.).
The Spartans tied the match in the 90th minutes when Stewart redirected a cross from Sophie Crowther (New Westminster, B.C.) past Montana's Sophia Pierce.

QUOTABLE
Graham Roxburgh - TWU Head Coach
"Overall it was a productive exhibition game. It was good to get lots of players minutes. The heat was a factor, but I feel like we grew into the game. In the last 30 minutes or so we generated some good chances. Anna Dunn was so good in her ability to battle and bring others into play and Sophie Crowther was dangerous down the wing. I thought Kylie Hendricks played her best game so far of her young career."

NOTABLE
• The Spartans two losses were 5-0 at Gonzaga and 4-1 at Oregon State. TWU's lone win was a 2-1 victory at home against Western Washington.
• Today's match was the first time the Spartans have matched up against the Grizzlies in Missoula.
• The Grizzlies outshot the Spartans 12-9 and had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
• The Spartans Miller made one save in the tie, while the Grizzlies Camellia Xu, Sophia Pierce and Ashlyn Dvorak combined for three saves.
• TWU begins Canada West conference play August 26 and 27 when they will host the Victoria Vikes and the UBC Thunderbirds at Chase Office Field on the campus of Trinity Western University.
