SPARTANS RALLY FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia – Trinity Western scored twice in the second half to secure a 3-1 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves Sunday afternoon at Masich Place Stadium in Prince George, BC. The victory gives the Spartans a four-point weekend against the Timberwolves, as TWU returns home at 1-0-1 after the opening weekend of Canada West play.

TWU's Adam Hajdecki, (Surrey, B.C.), Brandon Torresan (North Vancouver, B.C.), and Marcus Tjernagel (Maple Ridge, B.C.) had the markers for the Spartans, while Michael Henman had the lone Timberwolves goal.

TWU keeper Alexander Cordeiro (Burnaby, B.C.) earned the win for the Spartans, while UNBC's Daneil Zadravec took the loss for the Timberwolves.

AS IT HAPPENED
The Timberwolves open the scoring in the 8th minute. UNBC's Gregor Smith got open up the right side and sent a square ball through the TWU box where the Timberwolves Michael Henman taped the ball into the leftside of the Spartans net.

Trinity Western tied the match off a free kick in the 45th minute from outside the top of the top of the UNBC penalty area. Spartans put the ball into the keepers box where a header and a scramble result in the ball going off of TWU's Hajdecki and into the near side of the Timberwolves net to tie the match at 1-1 heading into the half.

The Spartans took the lead in the 73rd minute on a counter attack. TWU's Brandon Torrensan made a sliding kick from the top box, off of a Luca Alberti (Burnaby, B.C.)feed, to beat UNBC keeper Daniel Zadravec and find the lower left side of the net to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.

TWU's Tjernagel got the insurance goal in the 86th minute. Tjernagel took a pass from Alberti and made a nice move before looping the ball in the top of the UNBC net to put TWU up 3-1.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Mike Shearon
"A good result today, and happy with our first road trip of the season. A little disappointing in the first part of the first half in how we played, but overall I was happy with our performance and being able to get four points this weekend. Especially against a team like UNBC who are well organized and play well. They are a difficult team to get points off of."

"Across the line-up everyone is starting to do well and play to their abilities. Brandon had a fantastic game. Luke did a great job in the second half and also set up two goals for us. Marcus' goal was super well taken; it was a good little goal. Alex did great in net, and our back line played well."

"Now we will get ready for another tough week, and we will see what we can do this coming weekend."
