SPARTANS DEFEAT MOUNT ROYAL 3-0

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western pulled out a 3-0 victory over Mount Royal at the Chase Office Field on Saturday.

Goals from Tilly James (Vancouver, B.C.), Charis Wardrope (Maple Ridge, B.C.), and Holland Stiel (Okotoks, Alta.) were enough for TWU (3-1-0) to hand MRU (2-1-1) their first loss of the season.

Sierra Halldorson (Winnipeg), Sophie Crowther (New Westminster, B.C.), and Stiel assisted on TWU's three goals.

In net, Hannah Miller (Langley, B.C.) was only forced to make one save for her third clean sheet of the season.

AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans would score first as a Sophie Crowther cross would find the feet of James who opened the scoring in the 25th minute.

Wardrope would get the second half started immediately, putting home her fifth of the season off Holland Stiel's assist in the 47th minute.

Stiel would get back on the scoresheet immediately to take the match to a 3-0 line in the 58th minute.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh
"Pleased with the performance. I thought Mount Royal were very organized – which presented a different challenge to us. Our team needed to stay patient on the ball and I thought we played some intelligent soccer. Sometimes our youthfulness and naivety makes us force some things. Their keeper made a couple really good saves to change the game. Overall, really pleased with the way we played.

"Good finishes from Tilly [James], Charis [Wardrope], and Holland [Stiel]. Charis and Holland did really well off the bench – we have hard decisions to make and it's nice to have them come off the bench and make a difference."

NOTABLE
• TWU has never dropped a point to the Cougars with tonight's result moving their all-time record to 5-0 against MRU.
• Charis Wardrope has now scored five goals in her first four matches in Canada West play. Krista Gommeringer ('16, Calgary) is the only Spartan to score more than five goals in their first four Canada West appearances. Gommeringer scored six goals in her first four matches as a Spartan in 2012.
Tilly James has scored three goals in her last two matches. James scored a brace in TWU's 8-0 victory over Lethbridge on Friday.

UP NEXT
