SPARTANS FALL TO UBC IN PRESEASON OPENER

VANCOUVER – Trinity Western opened their preseason with a 3-1 loss to UBC on Thursday at Father David Bauer Arena.

TWU's lone goal was scored by first-year Brooklyn Hutchings (Prince George, B.C.) who found the back of the net on an even-strength opportunity.

The Thunderbirds were able to edge the Spartans on the power play, scoring two of their three goals on the advantage.

QUOTABLE
Jean Laforest – TWU Head Coach
"It was a 1-1 game in terms of even-strength play. We're always fine tuning our special teams, but it's still an area that we need to concentrate on. Overall, we got better as the game went on. The third period was our best one.

"Our goal wasn't to measure ourselves up against UBC, but to be happy with how we played – and we were. Our first game of the year against U SPORTS competition went well."

NOTABLE
•    TWU's last meeting with the Thunderbirds resulted in a 7-5 loss which was highlighted by Brooklyn Anderson's (Shellbrook, Sask.) three-point night (2G, 1A).
•    TWU is winless in seven games against UBC all-time.
