LANGLEY, B.C. – Thomas Powell (Coquitlam, B.C.) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after putting together a goal and an assist in Trinity Western's 3-0 victory over MacEwan on Friday.
Friday's match bore 75 minutes of scoreless play before Powell would collect a pass from
Marcus Tjernagel (Maple Ridge, B.C.) to perfectly place a low-driven shot past GMU's keeper. Powell's goal stood as the momentum TWU needed as the second-year midfielder would assist on
Luca Alberti's (Burnaby, B.C.) in the 80
th minute.
Powell totalled eight shots in TWU's four-point weekend. The Spartans defeated GMU 3-0 before taking a 0-0 draw against Calgary.
The Spartans are 5-3-2 with three weekends of games remaining. Their record currently pins them as the third ranked team in the Pacific division. This coming weekend, TWU hits the road to take on their Okanagan road trip, playing both Thompson Rivers (6-2-1, 1
st in Pacific) and UBC Okanagan (2-3-2, 7
th in Pacific).
