FAWCETT STOPS 27 AS SPARTANS FALL TO NO. 6 ALBERTA

EDMONTON – Kate Fawcett (Tottenham, Ont.) stopped 27 of 28 shots faced in Trinity Western's 1-0 loss to No. 6 Alberta on Friday at Clare Drake Arena.

Alberta's Taylor Anker scored Friday's lone power play marker 6:05 into the second period.

The Spartans (9-9-2) were unable to generate enough offence against a stingy Pandas (15-5-1) defensive group. The Pandas held the Spartans to 13, compared to Alberta's sum of 28.

AS IT HAPPENED
A slow first period resulted in Alberta edging past the Spartans in shots, 7-4.

The Pandas dominated the second period, but Fawcett stood tall, stopping all but one of 11 Alberta attempts on net.

The Spartans could not capitalize on any opportunities to bring Friday's tilt to a tie, ending it at a 1-0 victory for Alberta.

NOTABLE
  • Fawcett has been sharp all season. The second-year goaltender statistically ranks among the conference's best thus far, standing at fifth in save percentage (.936) while holding a 1.80 GAA.
  • The Spartans are 2-3 all-time against Alberta.
  • TWU went 0/5 on the power play.
