EDMONTON – Trinity Western fell 5-1 to MacEwan at Downtown Community Arena on Saturday.
The Spartans (2-21-1) got the game's first goal from
Daine DuBois (Williams Lake, B.C.) (11:06, 1
st), but the Griffins (8-14-0) answered back with five unanswered goals of their own to take the victory. MacEwan's goals were scored by Ethan Strang (4:51 2
nd, 12:15 3
rd), Merritt Oszytko (6:42, 2
nd), Loeden Shaufler (17:58, 2
nd), and Marc Pasemko (2:51, 3
rd).
Berk Berkeliev (Calgary) started in goal for the Spartans, stopping 31 of 36 shots to eventually take his eighth loss of the season. On the other end, Ashton Abel strung together his eighth victory of the season, stopping all but one of 23 TWU shots on goal.
AS IT HAPPENED
DuBois earned his ninth goal off of a feed from
Tanner Hopps (North Delta, B.C.), who made his 12
th assist on the season. The Spartans closed the first period with a 1-0 lead in-hand as shots were tied at 12-12.
The Griffins got to work in the second period, totalling three unanswered goals while outshooting the Spartans 17-2.
MacEwan had the final say of the game in the third period, scoring two more goals to bring their tally of unanswered markers to five on the night.

• Hopps leads the Spartans in assists with 12. He shares TWU's second most points at 15 with
Mitchell Joss (Winnipeg).
• DuBois now holds a six-game point-streak, tallying nine through the stretch. He leads the Spartans with 17 points in 24 games played.
