RECORD BREAKING NIGHT AS SPARTANS BLANK COUGARS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western third-year forward Charity Field's (Burnaby, B.C.) four-point night led the Spartans to a dominant win 5-0 win over the visiting Mount Royal Cougars Friday night at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C. The victory improves the Spartans to 9-1-3 and locks them into second place in the Pacific Division, while the loss drops the Cougars to 4-6-3 and sixth spot in the Pacific Division.

TWU fifth-year keeper Hannah Miller (Langley, B.C.) made one save, and second-year Yasmine Pahal (Surrey, B.C.) made one save to lead the Spartans the shutout victory, allowing Miller to set the TWU shutout record at 30.25 matches. While Mount Royal's Torrance Langdon had two saves, and Natalija Djurisic made three saves in the loss.

AS IT HAPPENED
TWU second-year forward Sophie Crowther (New Westminster, B.C.) got the Spartans on the board in the 5th minute. Field, made a sliding pass from near the end line back to Crowther who found the back of the MRU net to put TWU up 1-0.

Crowther added her second of the night in the 16th minute. TWU fourth-year midfielder Maddie Melnychuck (Langley, B.C.) got the ball into the top right of the penalty area where she found Crowther off to hear left. Crowther made a nice spin move and then slotted the ball into the top left corner of the Cougars net to put TWU up 2-0.

Field got her first goal of the night on a fine individual effort in the 27th minute. Field stole the ball off of the MRU keeper at the top of the box and the ball went off the right post, where she chased down the rebound and put the ball into the empty net to give TWU a 3-0 lead.

Rookie forward Destiny Omari (Paris, Ont.) got her first goal as a Spartan in the 35th minute. The goal came after Field sent a hard shot off of the MRU keeper. The rebound went off to her right, where Omari one-timed the ball into the open net to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead heading into the half-time break.

In the 80th minute, Field got her second goal and fourth point of the night. TWU first-year forward Mansha Sidhu (Surrey, B.C.) sent a ball up the middle to Field who went in alone on the MRU goal. Field finished off her night by slotting the ball into the lower left side of the Cougars net to make the final 5-0 for the Spartans.

Former Spartan Ally Willamson ('16) holds the Canada West record with 34.5 shutouts. Williamson split her time between UBC and TWU.
