KELOWNA, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans evened up their preseason with a solid 74-61 victory over the UBC Okanagan Heat Saturday evening at the UBCO Gymnasium in Kelowna, B.C.
The two teams were tied 34-34 at the half. TWU outscored UBC-O 23-10 in the third to take control of the game.
Third-year guard
David Mutabazi (Delta, B.C.) with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, fourth-year guard
Vlad Mihaila (Surrey, B.C.) with 15 points, fourth-year guard
Josh Belvin (Long Beach, Calf.) with 12 points, and third-year centre
Connor Platz (Langley, B.C.) with 12 rebounds and six points led the Spartans. While Hafith Moallin with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Leon Schenker with 15 points led the Heat.
NOTABLE
- TWU shot 36.1 percent (26-72) from the field, 19 percent (4-21) from the three-point line, and 78.3 percent (18-23) from the foul line. While UBC Okanagan shot 32.4 percent (23-71), 20 percent (3-15), and 60 percent (12-20).
- The Spartans had a 51-49 edge in rebounding.
- TWU is 14-5 lifetime against UBC Okanagan
- The Spartans lost 74-48 Friday night to the Ottawa Gee-Gees to open the Heat Fall Classic Tournament.
UP NEXT
The Spartans will finish off the tournament on Sunday morning against the Mount Royal Cougars. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the UBCO Gymnasium in Kelowna, B.C. TWU opens up Canada West conference play on November 3-4 in Kamloops, B.C. against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. Game time is at 5:30 p.m. on both nights and can be seen live on Canadawest.tv.
