VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans fell 8-1 to the UBC Thunderbirds in the final game of their 2022-23 Canada West season Friday night at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver, B.C. This gives the Spartans a final record of 3-24-2, while the win improves the Thunderbirds to 18-6-3, who have two games remaining.
TWU's
Berk Berkeliev (Calgary) made 24 saves in the start and
Isaac LaBelle (Saskatoon, Sask.) added six saves in the Spartans loss, while UBC's Kaeden Lane made 32 saves in the Thunderbird win.
TWU's lone goal came from
Josiah Vanderhooft (East St. Paul, Man.) to open the game at 5:50 of the first period.
UBC's Cyle McNabb scored twice at 16:48 of the second period, and 7:05 of the third period to lead the Thunderbirds. While Liam Kindree, at 11:21 of the first period, Tian Rask at 17:30 of the first period, Sash Mutala at 19:03 of the first period, Chris Douglas at 13:08 of the second period, Sam Huo at 8:54 of the third period, and Jake Lee, at 15:28 of the third period all had single markers for UBC.

• The Spartans are now 0-14 lifetime against the Thunderbirds and 1-9 in conference play.
• UBC had a 48-33 edge in shots on goal over TWU
• The Spartans finished the night 0-3 on the power play, while the Thunderbirds finished 3-5.
• TWU lost to UBC 8-5 Friday night at the Langley Events Centre.
