LATE UBC GOAL DROPS SPARTANS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans were handed a tough 1-0 loss to the UBC Thunderbirds at a rain-soaked Willoughby Stadium Saturday night in Langley, B.C. The loss moves the Spartans to 6-6-3, while the win moves the UBC to 11-1-3.

UBC's Connor Mrazek scored the lone goal of the match in the 81st minute when he headed a ball from Asvin Chauhan to put UBC up 1-0.

TWU's best chance of the evening came in the 59th minute when, from distance, second-year defender Jonny Grant (Ottawa, Ont.) sent a hard shot off the UBC crossbar.

Third-year keeper Alexander Cordeiro (Burnaby, B.C.) made six saves in the Spartans loss, while UBC's Bennett McKay made three saves in the Thunderbird win.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will now head into the Canada West play-offs. With the loss TWU will finish fourth in the Pacific Division, which means they will travel to Edmonton to play the No. 1 Prairie Division team the Alberta Golden Bears. The time and location of the match is to be determined, but will be streamed live on Canada West TV.

TWU head coach Michael Shearon
"Disappointed that we could not get a result tonight. We literally weathered some storms tonight and kept them at zero in the first half, one where I thought they were better for sure. We did have some chances in the first that our final ball let us down. In the second I thought we played better and could have gotten something out of the game. Looking forward to getting back at it next weekend in playoffs and see if we can do some damage."
