AUDET MAKES 48 SAVES IN LOSS TO MOUNT ROYAL

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western goalie Raphael Audet (Rimouski, Que.) stopped 48 of the 52 shots he faced, but the Spartans lost 6-3 to Mount Royal Saturday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre.

The Spartans and Cougars were tied 3-3 early in the third period, but a goal by MRU's Connor Bouchard at 5:20 of the final frame proved to be the game-winner.

A pair of empty-net goals from Tim Gould sealed the win for MRU.

Jonathan Krahn (Chilliwack, B.C.), Sammy May (Richmond, B.C.) and Luke Spadafora (Calgary) scored for the Spartans, with Krahn and Spadafora also tallying one assist each.

Justine Lies had two goals and an assists for MUR, while Josh Tarzwell also got in on the Cougars goal-scoring action. Robbie Fromm-Delorme added a two-assist showing for MRU.

Cougars goalie Harmon Laser-Hume made nine saves to earn the win.

After Lies opened the scoring for MRU, Krahn, in the first period, and May, in the second period, struck back to give TWU a 2-1 lead. However, MRU scored twice before the second period was out to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. Spadafora evened the game just 59 seconds into the third period, but it was Bouchard getting the game-winner less than five minutes later.

QUOTABLE
Ben Walter, TWU Head Coach
"We're forming a different identity than what we've had in the past and playing how we want to play. We don't want to give up that many shots and we're lucky we have really good goaltending – Raph had an amazing game and he gave us a chance to win – but I think the way that we kept going was good to see and our resilience showed through. The guys were positive on the bench all game and we felt that we had a chance to win the game.

"I told the guys after the game that we should be proud of our effort and we should be confident in what we can show this season. That's a glimpse of what we can do – even with a low number of bodies. When we get fully healthy and we can play that way, we're going to be able to get what we want out of these games. We'll use the bye week to get healthy and have a good week of practice."

NEXT UP
TWU has a bye next week before returning to Canada West action Oct. 16 when the Spartans host UBC on a rare Wednesday night contest at the Langley Events Centre. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
