QUOTABLE
TWU head coach Peter Hay
"A good win tonight by our group and another solid performance in net by Fawcett. Our power play came through when we needed it and we did enough to get us the two points after an exciting overtime goal by
Kasey Ditner. Tomorrow we will regroup and know we need to be better as go after another two really important points for us to get the sweep."
AS IT HAPPENED
The Cougars had the better of the Spartans to start and capitalize with a goal by Blais 10 minutes into the game. Blais deflected a floating puck in front of the net up and over Fawcett's shoulder and into the back of the TWU net. The Spartans Santon got the equalizer with two minutes remaining in the period, when she converted a beautiful wraparound. Both teams had six shots on goal in the opening period.
The Spartans gradually took control of the game in the second period and were able to keep most of the play in the Cougars end of the rink. TWU's Leier converted a perfect pass from
Kyra Anderson on the power play to give TWU a 2-1 lead at 14:09 of the period. TWU would maintain the lead as the second period ended with the Spartans up 2-1. TWU outshot Regina 9-8 in the period.
The Cougars Scraba tied the game up on the power play midway through the third period when she converted from the slot to make the score 2-2 with 10:15 remaining in the game. Regina had a two-player advantage late in the period, but were unable to convert as the game went into overtime tied at 2-2. Regina outshot TWU 11-9 in third period.
Playing four-on-four Ditner got the game winner 47 seconds into the overtime period when she broke up the left side and beat Kliewer to give TWU the 3-2 win.
