LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans gave the MacEwan Griffins everything they could handle before falling 5-4 in overtime to the visiting Griffins Saturday night at the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre in Aldergrove, B.C. The overtime loss gives the Spartans a point and moves their record to 2-9-1, while the win moves the Griffins to 5-5-1.

Michael Spafford (Saskatoon, Sask.), second-year defence
Skyler Cameron (Nanaimo, B.C.), and fourth-year defence
Jake Jurgeneit (Toronto, Ont.).
Scoring for the Griffins were Sean Comrie, Sam Simard, Vincent Scott, Caden Cabana, and Logan Dowhaniuk.
TWU second-year goaltender
Leon Sommer (Linz, Aust.) made 38 saves in the overtime loss, while MacEwan's Eric Ward made 18 saves in the win.

The Spartans now head to Calgary to take on the Mount Royal Cougars for a two-game series on November 22-23. Game time at the Flames Community Centre is set for 7 p.m. (MT) and 5 p.m. (MT) and can be seen live on Canada West TV.
AS IT HAPPENED
Pomeroy got the Spartans out front early with a power play goal at 2:50 of the opening period. The lead was short for TWU as MacEwan's Comrie tied the game at 4:26. The period ended at 1-1, with the Griffins holding a 7-6 edge in shots.
TWU once again took the lead when Spafford scored at 7:25. MaEwan answered with goals from Simard at 9:18 and Scott at 17:51 to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. The Griffins had sizable shot advantage at 18-8.
The Spartans' Cameron tied the game at 3-3 at 4:53 of the third period. The Griffins Cabana gave MacEwan the lead again at 9:32. TWU's Jurgeneit tied the game up again at 4-4 at 11:32. Neither team could find a go-ahead goal as the game went into overtime. MacEwan again had the shot advantage at 15-3.
Both teams had scoring opportunities in overtime, but it was MacEwan's Dowhaniuk who found the mark at 4:29 to give the Griffins the 5-4 win. MacEwan had a 3-2 edge in shots in the extra frame.
