QUOTABLE
TWU head coach Ben Walter
"I think we were confident coming in. We had a great week of practice, we learned a lot from our game last weekend in Calgary, and we just said, hey, let's have a good 10 minutes, and just focus on 10 minutes. It's a nice bonus when Christian gets a goal 20 seconds in, but I just I liked our mentality coming in. Guys felt confident, positive, and it showed in the game."
On getting ready for tomorrow's game
It's what I said in the room after the game, feel good about it. Feel good about the game we played, but we have to follow it up tomorrow. It's that consistency factor, which has been something we've been trying to get to for a long time. We can feel it as a staff that it's coming, but now it's about putting it on the ice and showing up tomorrow, knowing it's not going to be easy."
AS IT HAPPENED
TWU got off to a fast start when Lowe broke up the left side and beat Evanoff to put the Spartans up 1-0, 22 seconds into the game. Farren got the Spartans second of the night when, after a faceoff scramble, he took a pass from fifth-year forward
Daine DuBois (Williams Lake, B.C.) and found the open left site to put TWU up 2-0 at 10:38. The period ended with TWU up 2-0, and outshot Regina 10-9.
Schweitzer got the Spartans third of the night when he went up the left side and had a clean shot at the Regina net. He missed, but got his rebound from behind the net to score the wraparound and put TWU up 3-0 at 8:50 of the second period. Lowe made it a four-goal lead, with his second of the night, when he took a perfect pass across the paint from third-year centre
Jonathan Krahn (Chilliwack, B.C.) and put the puck into the open left side of the net to make it 4-0 to end the second period. The Spartans outshot the Cougars 10-8 in the second period.
Carter Belitski got the Cougars lone goal when he and Carson Whyte broke in alone on Sommer to score a short-handed goal with 33 seconds remaining and make the final 4-1 for the Spartans. Regina outshot the Spartans in the final period 14-12.
