SPARTANS DROP ROAD CONTEST WITH NO. 8 MOUNT ROYAL

Box Score LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western got the first two goals of the game, but it was all Mount Royal the rest of the way, as the No. 8-ranked Cougars won 7-2 Saturday at the Flames Community Arena.

TWU's Jonathan Krahn and Luke Spadafora both scored in the first five minutes of the game, with Krahn opening the scoring 1:12 into the contest and Spadafora extending TWU's lead at 4:53.

However, an MRU goal from Clay Hanus at 14:04 of the opening frame sparked the home side's rally.

The Cougars scored four goals in the second period and two more in the third period to secure the win.

Matteo Lamoureux, Zack Whittaker, Christian Lowe and Landon Fuller picked up assists for the Spartans.

For MRU, Hanus had a three-point night, adding two assists, while five other Cougars found the back of the net, with Kyle Walker, Michael Ladyman, Leith Olafson, Jayden Wiens and Josh Tarzwell scoring.

Leon Sommer made 44 saves for TWU, while Riley Sims stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced for the Cougars.

The loss drops TWU to 2-11-0-1 while Mount Royal improves to 11-3.

TWU finished one for two on the power play, while Mount Royal was two for seven.

QUOTABLE
Ben Walter, TWU Head Coach
"It was a disappointing game tonight for sure.  We started out very well and had a lot of energy, but we couldn't sustain it.  We were undisciplined in the second half of the game and MRU made us pay for it.

"Leon battled hard again tonight but we didn't give him enough help in the second half of the game.  We will have a good week of practice and get prepared for Calgary next weekend."

NOTABLE
·       Christian Lowe tallied his eighth assist of the season and now has a team-leading 15 points in 14 games.
·       Lowe has points in seven of his last eight games, with four goals and eight assists.
·       With an assist, Zack Whittaker extended his point streak to four games, with a goal and four assists.

NEXT UP
TWU is back in Calgary next weekend when they play the University of Calgary Nov. 29-30.
