QUOTABLE
TWU head coach Peter Hay
"We knew that this was a big weekend for playoffs to get four points on Calgary, which is essentially like eight points because they didn't get anything, is a big step for us. We're now three wins up on them in the third spot and now we just have to keep playing the way we are into next weekend's games against UBC. We came into the first game this weekend and did really well and then in the second game, our first period was less than what we wanted and expected, but we just fought hard in the second and third periods to get back to how we play. We challenged them in the first intermission about our DNA and who we are and how hard we work. ?We want to be known as the hardest-working team in the league and the second period really showed that, out-shooting them 19-6. I was really proud of how we responded, which is a good sign of character and buy-in. Just so proud of this group, and how they're playing together. We have had different heroes each night and different players step up at the right times. It was a really great weekend by McDonald scoring some big goals and our goaltending with Fawcett. as she stopped the pucks, she had to stop. Very, very pumped about our future and where we're going."

AS IT HAPPENED
The Dinos had a better start to today's game and opened the scoring at 2:07. Calgary took advantage of a TWU giveaway and Fry found the top corner of the TWU net to beat Fawcett through a maze of players.  Calgary would end the period with a 12-11 edge in shots and a 1-0 lead.

Rookie forward Cailin Yackel (West St. Paul, Man.) looked like she had tied the game at 10:52 when she beat Awad, but her shot went off of the inside of the crossbar and stayed out of the Calgary net to keep the score at 1-0 for the Dinos. TWU's McDonald tied the game at 15:53 with her fourth of the season. McDonald picked up a Dinos' pass at the Calgary blue line, went up the left side, and beat Awad with a perfect shot into the top left corner of the Calgary net. The Spartans dominated the time of possession and shots finishing with a 19-6 edge in shots.

The Spartans Anderson gave the Spartans the lead 1:02 into the third period with her fourth goal of the season. Anderson stole the puck off a Dino forward on the left board, skated to the centre of the Calgary zone, and beat Awad to the low right side to put TWU up 2-1.

McDonald got her second of the game at 7:45 of the third period. McDonald took the puck off the Dinos forward at the TWU blue line went up the left side and in alone to find the top left corner of the Calgary net and give the Spartans a two-goal lead, 3-1.

Calgary's Josie McLeod looked to make it a one-goal deficit a few seconds later when she broke in alone on the TWU net. But Fawcett was up to the task and made the glove save to maintain the Spartans' 3-1 lead. Olivia Leir almost made it four goals for the Spartans when her shot on the break went off of the Calgary crossbar at 9:59. The Dinos pulled Awad for the final two minutes. Still, Calgary was unable to get another puck past Fawcett as TWU held on for the 3-1 win. The Spartans outshot the Dinos 9-8 in the final period.
