AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans played most of the first 20 minutes in the Cougars end of the park. But it was Mount Royal who got on the score board first. The Cougars Tamara Djurisic got a lose clearing pass in the Spartans side of the field. She found teammate Gabrielle Linford in the centre of the TWU zone and from distance Linford hit the top right corner of the Spartans net over a leaping Pahal to put the Cougars up 1-0 in the 22nd minute.
TWU got the tying goal in the 32nd minute. Second-year forward Mansha Sidhu (Surrey, B.C.) found Field sprinting up the middle of the Cougars zone. Field went past the MRU defenders to go in alone on the Cougars Filek. Field made no mistake and found the lower right corner to tie the match 1-1 in the 33rd minute.
The Cougars quickly got the lead back when MRU's Dany Juarez took the ball off the TWU defender just outside the Spartans penalty area. Juarez quickly hit the top corner to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute
The opening 45 minutes ended with Mount Royal up 2-1. TWU had the edge in shots on goal at 5-4, corner kicks 5-1, and shots 7-4.
The second half had Trinity Western pushing to find the tying goal but through regulation the Spartans were unable to find the equalizer.
Then in added time TWU got the equalizer. The Spartans fourth-year defender Tilly James (Vancouver, B.C.) sent a cross into the box where a scramble ensued for the loose ball. TWU second-year forward Luciana Andrews looked like she had the ball across the goal line, but Field was there to make sure as she punched the ball into the right corner to tie the match at 2-2.
The Spartans had a couple more chances but were unable to find the go-ahead goal as the match remained tied 2-2 at the final whistle.
