SPARTANS DROP ROAD PRESEASON GAME AT UBC

VANCOUVER – Trinity Western lost its final game of the preseason, dropping a 7-1 decision against defending Canada West champion UBC Friday at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.

TWU's Landon Fuller (Williams Lake, B.C.) scored the lone goal for the Spartans, with Tyler Schweitzer (Burnaby, B.C.) and Sammy May (Richmond, B.C.) earning assists. Spartans goalie Leon Sommer (Linz, Austria) stopped 29 of 36 shots he faced.

UBC got goals from Sam Huo (2), Kayden Sadhra-Kang, Cyle McNabb, Jake Wright, Josh Williams and Jack Wismer. The Thunderbirds Cole Schwebius stopped nine of 10 TWU shots.

The Spartans finished their preseason slate with two wins from six outings, having knocked off BCIHL sides Vancouver Island University and the University of Victoria before losing a pair of contests with both UBC and Simon Fraser.

QUOTABLE
Ben Walter, TWU Head Coach
"It was definitely not our best performance tonight. We have some work to do this week to get ourselves in a good position for our home-opener next Friday. We're going to have a great week of practice. I thought UBC came hard and put a lot of pressure on us and forced us to defend and we didn't do a great job of dealing with that."

NEXT UP
TWU will open their Canada West regular season schedule with back-to-back home games against Mount Royal Oct. 4-5. The Spartans home-opener is Oct. 4 at 7:15 p.m. at George Preston Arena.
