VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans gave the No. 3 UBC Thunderbirds everything they could handle before the Thunderbirds scored the overtime winner to take the game 6-5 Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre. The loss drops the Spartans to 3-17-0-1, while the Thunderbirds move to 14-6-0-1.
Scoring for the Spartans was first-year forward
Matteo Lamoureux (Montreal, Que.) with his fourth, and fifth of the season, fourth-year defence
Kade McMillen (Carievale, Sask.) with his second of the season, fifth-year forward
Daine DuBois (Williams Lake, B.C.) with his second of the season, third-year centre
Jonathan Krahn (Chilliwack, B.C.) with his eighth of the season.
Scoring for the Thunderbirds was Carson Latimer with his seventh of the season, Jake Wright with his 12th of the year, Cyle McNabb with his fifth of the season, Scott Atkinson with his eighth of the season, Connor McDonald with his fourth of the season, and Ty Thorpe with his seventh of the season.
Third-year goalie
Raphael Audet (Rimouski, Que.) made 35 saves in the OT loss, while Cole Schwebius made 19 saves in the T-Bird win.

The Spartans will now host the Calgary Dinos on Friday, January 24, and Saturday, January 25. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. (PT) and 3 p.m. (PT), and both games will be streamed live on Canada West TV.

Trinity Western and UBC ended the first period with UBC leading 2-1. Trinity Western's
Matteo Lamoureux scored his fourth goal of the season at 15:13, assisted by
Jonathan Krahn and
Landon Fuller. Despite this, the T-Birds secured the advantage with goals from Carson Latimer and Jake Wright, with Wright scoring his twelfth of the season. Both teams had two penalties, with TWU's Artem Hrabovetskyi's holding penalty contributing to UBC's power-play opportunity.
In the second period, the Spartans'
Kade McMillen scored a shorthanded goal at 5:13, assisted by
Christian Lowe, marking McMillen's second goal of the season. Trinity Western completed the period with one goal despite being short on the power play twice. The Thunderbirds responded with two goals later in the period, with Cyle McNabb scoring his fifth and Scott Atkinson adding his eighth of the season, leading to a visitor period score of two while Trinity Western scored one. The period ended with UBC ahead 4-2.
Trinity Western scored three goals in the third period to end regulation tied 5-5 with the Thunderbirds.
Daine DuBois opened the scoring for the Spartans at 54 seconds into the period, marking his second goal of the season.
Jonathan Krahn added a power-play goal at 10:03, assisted by

Daine DuBois, bringing his season total to eight.
Matteo Lamoureux scored his fifth goal of the season at 15:34, assisted by Artem Hrabovetskyi and
Yuji Akimoto. UBC's Conner McDonald responded with a goal at 16:22, assisted by Ty Thorpe.
UBC's Ty Thorpe scored the overtime winner at the 3:36 mark, assisted by Cyle McNabb and Matthew Smith, to give UBC the 6-5 win.
