EDMONTON – The Trinity Western Spartans had another tough game as they fell 5-2 to the MacEwan Griffins Saturday afternoon at the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton, Alta. The loss drops the Spartans to 0-7-1-0 in Canada West play, while the Griffins improve to 3-4-1-0.
 
Scoring for the Spartans were fourth-year defenceman 
Zack Whittaker (Victoria, B.C.) and second-year forward 
Matteo Lamoureux (Montreal, PQ).
Scoring for the Griffins were Brendan Boyle, Ethan Sundar, Myles Gauld, Keaton Dowhaniuk, and Sam Simard.
 
TWU third-year goalie 
Leon Sommer (Linz, Austria) made 42 saves in the Spartans' loss. MacEwan's Zac Onyskiw made 19 saves in the Griffins' win.
 
UP NEXT
The Spartans will now return home to take on the Alberta Golden Bears. Puck drop on Friday, October 31, at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C., is set for 7 p.m. (PT). Saturday's game at the George Preston Recreation Centre had a 7:15 p.m. (PT) start. Both games can be seen live on Canada West TV.
 
AS IT HAPPENED
The Griffins used the power play to control the opening period and take a 3-0 lead at the end of 20 minutes. Boyle opened the scoring at 10:07, with Sundar and Gauld following up with power-play goals at 15:45 and 16:23.
The Spartans' Whittaker got TWU's opening goal at 17:31 of the second period to cut the Griffins' lead to 3-1 at the end of 40 minutes.
MaEwan came out strong to start the final period with Dowhaniuk scoring at 3:58 and Simard scoring a power-play goal at 4:59 to put the Griffins up 5-1. TWU's Lamoureux made the final 5-2 for MacEwan with a goal at 17:11 in the third period.

	- The Griffins outshot the Spartans 47-21.
- TWU was 0-4 on the power play, while MacEwan finished 3-8
- TWU is currently 2-10 lifetime against MacEwan.
