SPARTANS FALL IN OT TO CALGARY DINOS

CALGARY, Alberta – The Trinity Western Spartans rallied from a late two-goal deficit, but their comeback fell short as the Spartans lost 3-2 in overtime to the Calgary Dinos Friday night at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary, Alta. The loss drops the Spartans to 7-3-1-0, while the win improves the Dinos to 8-3-2-0.
 
Scoring for the Spartans were fifth-year forward Kyra McDonald (Inuvik, NT) with her fifth of the season and fifth-year forward Jordyn Matthews (Okotoks, Alta.) with her fourth of the season. Scoring for the Dinos were Brooklyn Anderson with her third of the season, Sydney Mercier with her fifth and sixth of the season, including the overtime game winner.
 
Trinity Western's second-year goalie Olivia Davidson (Edmonton, Alta.) made 25 saves in the Spartans' overtime loss. Calgary's Amelia Awad made 35 saves in the Dinos' win.
 
UP NEXT
The Spartans will look to even up the weekend series tomorrow night when they take on the Dinos at the David Bauer Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (MT) and can be seen live on Canada West TV.

"We were up against a hot goalie tonight, and we couldn't find the net till our two power plays in the last 10 minutes of the third period. Calgary came out flying. We need to be ready and learn tomorrow to get more bodies to the blue paint and screen her eyes."

AS IT HAPPENED
After no scoring in the first two periods, Calgary got two quick goals in the third period with Anderson scoring at 3:58, and Mercier getting her first at 5:12. TWU responded with two power-play goals late in the period. McDonald scored at 13:58, with Matthews tying the game at 15:32.
 
Mercier scored the game-winning goal at 0:24 of overtime.

  • The Spartans outshot the Dinos 37-28.
  • TWU was 2-4 on the power play, while Cagary finished 0-1.
