CALGARY, Alberta –The Trinity Western Spartans fell behind early and were unable to recover, losing 6-3 to the Mount Royal Cougars Saturday night at the Flames Community Centre in Calgary, Alta. The loss drops the Spartans to 1-12-1-0, while the win improves the Cougars to 8-5-1-0.

Scoring for the Cougars were Justin Lies, Teague Patton, Spencer Moe, Bowden Singleton, and Blake Stevenson.

Raphael Audet (Rimouski, QC) made 34 saves in the Spartans' loss, while Riley Sims made 13 saves in the Cougars' win.

The Spartans will now return home to host the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday, November 28, at the Langley Events Center in Langley, B.C. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (PT) and can be seen live on Canada West TV.
AS IT HAPPENED
The Cougars controlled the first period, outshooting the Spartans 19-4 on their way to an early 3-0 lead after the opening period. Lies opened the scoring at 5:03 with a power play goal. Patton made it 2-0 for MRU at 8:22, before Moe finished the first period scoring with another power play goal at 15:23 to put the Cougars up 3-0 after 20 minutes.
Lowe got his first of the game for the Spartans at 2:02 to cut the Cougars' lead to 3-1. MRU's Singleton got the goal back at 16:34, followed quickly by Feist's goal 34 seconds later at 17:18 to put MRU up 5-1 after the second period.
Krahn made it a three-goal game with a power play goal at 4:10. Lowe followed with another power play goal at 6:04 to bring the Spartans within two goals, 5-3, with just under 14 minutes remaining. MRU's Stevenson finished off the scoring with a power play goal at 8:29.
