PLOUFFE EQUALS KILL RECORD IN FIVE-SET LOSS TO NO. 3 UBC

Box Score LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western's Kaylee Plouffe equaled TWU's single-match kill record with 26 kills, tying the record teammate Maryn Boldon set on Oct. 31, but it wasn't quite enough as the No. 4-ranked Spartans lost 3-2 (21-25, 35-33, 25-22, 13-25, 15-13) to No. 3-ranked UBC Friday at War Memorial Gym.

While Plouffe was moving to the top of the heap in the record books, Boldon wasn't far behind herself, as she collected 23 kills on the night for the Spartans. TWU's Tayana Dmitruk had a career-high 56 assists, which puts her in a tie for the fourth highest single-match assist total in Spartans history. Dmitruk also had four blocks and two aces, while guiding TWU (6-2) to a .274 hitting percentage.

UBC (6-2) was led by Lucy Borowski, who had 16 kills, while Leonora Barbulovich-Nad had a match-high five blocks and Kylee Glanville had three aces. Aimee Skinner added 12 kills for a UBC side that hit .180 as a team.

UBC had an 8-3 edge in aces. TWU had a 64-49 advantage in digs.

In the fifth set, UBC took a 12-9 lead, but the Spartans clawed back to make it 12-12 thanks in part to a pair of kills from Boldon. Another kill from Boldon staved off a loss on UBC's first match point, but with the home team up 14-13, Skinner finished the match with a kill.

NOTABLE
·       With Plouffe and Boldon now atop the all-time TWU leaderboard with 26 kills, they both have surpassed Kara Jansen Van Doorn, who had 25 kills twice (2/5/2011 and 10/31/2009), and Sophie Carpentier (2/12/2016).
·       Dmitruk's 56 assists puts her in a tie amongst TWU setters for most assists in a regular season match with Anna Paddock (2/10/2007), Chelsea Hudson (11/27/2010) and Kendra Kern (2/10/2024). Nikki Cornwall owns the record with 64 assists in a match against Manitoba Nov. 30, 2013.
·       Including preseason, TWU is 10-3 this year, with its only other loss being a five-set preseason setback against Alberta in the final of the West Coast Classic.

UP NEXT
TWU will now prepare for a trip to Edmonton to play No. 1-ranked Alberta Nov. 28-29.
