SPARTANS SWEPT BY ALBERTA PANDAS

EDMONTON, Alta. – The No. 4 Trinity Western Spartans were in tough against the No. 1 Alberta Pandas as TWU fell 3-0 to the Pandas Friday night at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alta. The 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 loss drops the Spartans to 6-3, while the win improves the Pandas to 8-1.
 
Fifth-year middle Kaylee Plouffe (Sherwood Park, Alta.) with 10 kills and two digs, and fourth-year outside Maryn Boldon (Okotoks, Alta.) with six kills, two blocks, and two digs led the Spartans. Abby Guezen with 16 kills, three digs, and two blocks, and Laila Johnston with 12 kills, five blocks, and five digs led the Pandas.
 
Third-year setter Tayana Dmitruk, with 21 set assists, led the Spartans' attack, while Sophia Magus, with 33 set assists, led the Pandas.
 
UP NEXT
The Spartans and Pandas will finish off the two-match series tomorrow at 7 p.m. (MT) at the Saville Community Sports Centre, which will be available to watch live on CBC Sports Game of the Week.

  • The Spartans finished the night hitting at .109 (31-21-92), while the Pandas finished at .329 (40-12-85).
  • Alberta had the edge in blocks 9-4and digs 32-30. While the Spartans had the edge in aces at 3-2.
  • TWU is currently 43-53 lifetime against Alberta.
