QUOTABLE
Peter Hay, TWU Head Coach
"An excellent effort by our team. Today was a bounce-back game as we played the right way with Grit and Energy. Sometimes the score doesn't match the game, as we had every reason to win, including high-danger chances, but we didn't get the bounces. We need to keep playing this way, and the goals will come and translate into wins. We are now in a battle with Alberta for that second spot, which makes the second half of the season very important."
AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans had a much better start to tonight's match-up, with the first three shots of the game. TWU's Isfeld opened the scoring with a slapshot from above the left circle to put TWU 1-0 at 6:28. The Pandas were able to tie the game up on the power play when Morden's shot through traffic beat Davidson at 8:42. After the early goals neither team was able to find the back of the net as the period ended at 1-1 with Alberta having a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.
In the second period, the Spartans outshot the Pandas 9-3, but neither team could find the back of the net, and they entered the third tied 1-1. Alberta's Kieser got the game winner when found the back of the TWU net on a two-on-two break at 9:45 of the final period. The Spartans pulled Davidson in the final minute, but were unable to get the equalizer as the Pandas prevailed 2-1.
