SPARTANS GET SWEEP FRASER VALLEY CASCADES

ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia– Trinity Western Spartans used a balanced attack with four players hitting double-digit scoring to defeat the Fraser Valley Cascades 86-77 Saturday evening at the UFV Athletic Centre in Abbotsford, B.C. The win improves the Spartans to 12-8, while the loss drops the Cascades to 9-11.  
 
TWU led 45-37 at halftime and trailed 57-56 entering the fourth quarter. A high-scoring fourth quarter with TWU outscoring the Cascades 30-20 gave the Spartans the nine-point win.
 
Fourth-year guard David Mutabazi (Delta, B.C.) with 21 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, third-year guard Marcus Shankar (Campbell River, B.C.) with 13 points, and four rebounds, fourth-year guard Tyrone Asenoguan (Richmond, B.C.) with 13 points and five rebounds, and fifth-year guard Jerric Palma (Richmond, B.C.) with 12 points, five rebounds, and six assists, all hit double-digit scoring to lead the Spartans
 
Dario Lopez with a double-double of 27 points 11 rebounds, and four assists, and Ismael Herandez with 25 points and six rebounds led the Cascades.
 
UP NEXT
The Spartans will now head into the Canada West playoffs. The opponent and location are still to be determined.
 
NOTABLE 
  • The Spartans finished the night shooting 48.4 percent (30-62) from the field, 33.3 percent (10-30) from the three-point line, and percent 88.9 percent (16-18) from the foul line. The Cascades shot 38.9 percent (28-72), 31.3 percent (10-32), and 50 percent (11-22) respectively.
  • The Spartans had a 43-38 edge in rebounding.
  • TWU finished with eight steals to UFV's 11. The Spartans had 19 turnovers to the Cascades 11.
  • The Spartans are currently 20-25 lifetime against the Cascades.
  • Last night the Spartans defeated the Cascades 97-94 in overtime in Abbotsford, B.C.
