SPARTANS GET HISTORIC SWEEP OF NO. 6 MOUNT ROYAL COUGARS

CALGARY, Alberta — Fourth-year goalie Kate Fawcett (Tottenham, Ont.) made it two straight shutouts of the No. 6 Mount Royal Cougars making 35 saves to lead the Trinity Western Spartans to a 1-0 shootout win Friday night at the Flames Community Arena in Calgary, Alta. The win improves the Spartans to a program-best 14-12-1-1, while the loss drops the Cougars, who are in second place in the West division, to 18-5-2-1.

The 32 points on the season is the highest point total for the Spartans in their Canada West history. The previous high was 26 points, in 2022-23.

Fourth-year centre Reilley Kellner (Langley, B.C.) got the lone shootout goal to open the shootout with Fawcett stopping all three Mount Royal shooters to give TWU the 1-0 shootout win.

Mount Royal's Kaitlyn Ross made 20 saves for the Cougars in the loss.

UP NEXT
TWU will begin the Canada West postseason next week in Winnipeg, Man. Where they will match up with the Manitoba Bisons in a best-of-three quarterfinal series.

QUOTABLE
Trinity Western Head Coach Peter Hay
"What a weekend by our team. Couldn't be more proud of this group. We got swept at MRU in the first weekend of the season and now sweeping them in the last weekend just shows how hard we have worked and how far we have come this season. Kate Fawcett was outstanding not allowing a goal the entirety of two games and a shootout. Also, an awesome way to end the season having Reilley Kellner score the shootout winner. We are primed and ready for playoffs. Time to go Bison hunting! "
